Venture capitalist and analyst Mary Meeker released the annual “Internet Trends Report 2016” at the Code Conference in California on Wednesday that revealed about the status of digital media across the world including the market status internet and Smartphones.
As per the report India has surpassed the US as the world’s second-largest internet market and internet user growth remains unswerving in the country led by acceleration. The report also depicted that the country has been branded as a mobile-only market with more than 300 million out of almost 400 million internet users access internet only through mobile devices.
Meeker who is an analyst at the US-based venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield; Byers, also revealed in his report that “internet advertising continues to grow, but so does ad-blocking, pushing the envelope on development of more innovative ad formats”.
As per the report internet needs a revamp as adblockers were installed on 420 million smartphones, with a year-on-year growth rate of 94%. Users from three countries India, China and Indonesia are accountable for driving this growth though.
It was also noted during the study that new online-first brands have grown very fast in popularity for the millennial generation.
Talking about the communication, it revealed that an increasing number of brands are using video and images as means of storytelling while the messaging has transformed to business-focused use cases, with Asian platforms often leading the way from simple, expressive conversation.
Due to the hassles of typing, the more convenient form of messaging, voice-based interfaces are exhibiting a sharp increase that’s creating a kind of new paradigm for human-computer interaction, as per the report.
