- Create a Google Analytics Account:
- To setup, first, we need to create a Google Analytics Account. Go to google.com/analytics and then click on start for free.
- Then login with a Google account. You must create a new account if you don’t have an account. Once you log in, then click on the setup for free.
- There you can add the account name and leave the recommended options ticked.
- Then choose whether you want to measure a website, or an app or both.
- Click on next and then enter your website name, URL. Select an industry category from the drop-down list. Choose your time zone, so that the reports are linked with your local time and then click create.
- Install tracking code:
- The tracking code should appear automatically after you create the Google Analytics Account.
- But it doesn’t, just click on the Admin tab, in the bottom left corner, and click on tracking info and then tracking code and you will be brought to the page to install on your website.
- If you are using a Wix, Weebly, or another website builder, then you can simply copy that tracking ID, and paste it into the admin section of your website.
- For example, to add the tracking ID to a Wix Website, then click on marketing connections, and then click on “connect to Google Analytics”. Paste your tracking ID there. This process is similar in other website builders also.
- If you codded your own website then instead of pasting the tracking ID. Simply copy the small piece of code present below the “Global Site Tag” and paste it right after the opening head tag on every page of your website.
- Confirm it is working:
- Open an incognito window from your browser and type the website domain.
- Come back to the normal browsing window and refresh the page in Google Analytics.
- There you should see that there is one active user on your website.
- This implies that Google Analytics is set up correctly because we can see the visit that you have opened in the incognito window.
- After 24 hours your reports will begin to populate and if you click on Google Analytics Home, you can see things like – the number of people visited the website, what medium through which they are approaching your website, the geographical statistics etc.
